Woodburn Ice Age Dig
Tuesday August 11, 2026
woodburn

You are invited to come and dig into the Ice Age! You could find bones from ancient bison, frogs, turtles, birds, and more. This is an annual event sponsored by Woodburn High School and the City of Woodburn. You will be looking through over-turned dirt either using hand tools or water and sieving/sifting, so plan to get dirty and/or wet. Bring lots of water to drink, hat, and sunscreen. Tools and training are provided. All are invited. You do not need to be a NARG member to participate. Some of the best finds are made by children and first-timers!
The site is located in the grassy area near the southeast parking area at the high school. Come anytime Tuesday-Friday between 8 am and 1 pm. Questions can be directed to dellingson9@yahoo.com

Dr. Samantha Hopkins is our speaker for the evening. Dr. Hopkins has been a paleontologist and professor in Earth Sciences at the University of Oregon since 2007. For some interesting articles about her research, please check out https://news.uoregon.edu/…/samantha-hopkins-department….
She will be joining us via Zoom almost immediately after returning from the field. Her talk is entitled “Fieldwork updates from the Oregon High Desert: collecting fossil mammals from the mid-Cenozoic of Oregon.”
Everyone is welcome to join us! Membership is NOT required! Before the talk, we will have a show-and-tell by members and guests. Please bring fossils for identification and discussion.
For a Zoom link to the meeting, send a Message a day or so before the meeting. We have had problems with Zoom-bombing, so we no longer post the invite publicly. If you are a NARG member, check your email Inbox for an invite.
